What is the Cert III in Civil Construction Plant Operations (RII30820)?
This civil construction course will develop your skills across a range of tools and equipment, and provide valuable knowledge to help you progress. The RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations covers a range of skills in areas such as:
- Plant operations and equipment
- Hand and power tools
- Basic levelling and excavation
The goal is to prepare you to become a civil construction worker!
This civil construction course is delivered with both theory and practical elements, with a mixture of classroom, group discussions, and individual research.
How long does a course take?
Builders Academy Australia offer two options for you, depending on your situation:
- Option 1: Held 3 days per week and runs for 26 weeks.
- Option 2: Runs for 50 weeks comprising of: – 3 days a week over 12 weeks – 1 day a week over 33 weeks Student will also be provided an additional 5 weeks at the completion of their face to face classes to complete all assessment tasks and practice skills where they are yet to demonstrate competence prior to this time.

This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working in a civil construction plant and could lead to exciting careers including:
- Leading Hand (Civil Construction)
- Site Maintenance Construction Worker
- Mobile plant operator
- Earth moving plant operator
- General civil construction worker
- Labourer
- Traffic controller
Is the course subsidised?
If you meet the eligibility criteria the cost of your course may be delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding. Hi my name is Rameen Nadiri, I completed the Cert III in Civil Construction with Builders Academy.
What was your favourite part of the course?
My favourite part of the course was digging on machinery, especially the excavator that was my favourite out of all the machines.
What was your motivation for undertaking the program?
Being the 2021 student of the year really made me more motivated to accomplish all the goals and made me more grateful of my journey with the whole course and the things I’ve learned. It’s a tool I’m going to use a lot to motivate myself.
What advice would you give other students thinking of undertaking this qualification?
The advice I will have for other students who want to do the Cert III in Civil Construction is to believe in yourself and definitely lean on the trainers, they’re there to motivate you and push you to learn as much as you can. If you are interested in the field, go for it.
