We had a chance to interview the Student of the Year nominee, Andrew Nosworthy to chat about his journey in taking Certificate IV in Building & Construction at Builders Academy Australia.

As the saying goes, it may take a while but what’s meant for you will always find its way to you. This course is more than just a course for Andrew. He told himself a long time ago that he will be a builder by 30. Though he got lost along the way, he found his way back through BAA’s adverts! It wasn’t too late. His dream of becoming a registered builder is what made him motivated for taking the course. And guess what, through Builders Academy Australia, in the next five or six months he is close to achieving his long lost dream!
So, what advice has Andrew got for other students thinking of undertaking this qualification? Andrew shares his insight:
“Just do it. You have nothing to lose. So much to learn, so much to gain from it. It definitely does open doors to new possibilities so just do it. Stop thinking about it, jump in, do it.”

Introduce yourself and the qualification you were undertaking with BAA.
My name is Andrew Nosworthy and I took Certificate IV in Building Construction with the BAA.
What was your favourite part of the course?
So, my favorite part of the course was the interaction between all the students and instructors, learning from other people’s experiences and their stories of what they’ve gone through rather than just all the set criteria of what they want to teach, so you learn from other people’s experiences as well.
What was your motivation for undertaking the program?
Mainly I kept hearing the adverts saying start the course, start the course and it just drilled into my head after a while. I’ve really got to start the course. So my motivation for taking the Certificate IV is really to start the process of getting my builders lost. For such a long time I said by the time I’m 30 I’ll be licensed and all of a sudden, I went geez I’m 30 now and I haven’t done it so I had to just get in and get the process rolling.
What does it mean to be recognised as the 2021 Student of the Year?
To be awarded as 2021 Student of the Year, it’s given me that much needed confidence and motivation to I guess take that next leap and to now undertake the process to become a builder which in the last week I’ve actually started to do, so hopefully in the next five to six months, I will be a registered builder.
What advice would you give other students thinking of undertaking this qualification?
I guess my main advice for anyone considering doing the Certificate IV would be, just do it. You have nothing to lose. So much to learn, so much to gain from it. It definitely does open doors to new possibilities so just do it. Stop thinking about it, jump in, do it.
