RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a way for tradies and workers in the industry to get qualified for the skills, knowledge and experience they’ve already picked up on the job—without starting from scratch.

REQUEST A CALLBACK

If you’re currently working in the building and construction industry and are thinking about obtaining a qualification- trust the process with a registered training organisation that specialises in building and construction.

BUILDERS ACADEMY AUSTRALIA – RPL SPECIALISTS IN BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION

Thinking about RPL? You’re in the right place.

At Builders Academy Australia (BAA), we make your experience count. If you've already spent time working in the building and construction industry, RPL is a smart, fast-tracked way to turn your skills into a nationally recognised qualification — and there's no better place to do it than with one of Australia's most awarded training providers.

We’ve been recognised as:

  • 2020 Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year
  • 2020 Australian Small Training Provider of the Year
  • 2021 Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year

Our success is built on real industry experience. Founded by Simonds Homes, one of Australia's largest domestic home builders, we bring decades of know-how straight into the training room. That means everything we do is designed to reflect what the industry needs — today and into the future.

At BAA, building and construction is all we do. No distractions. No unrelated courses. Just a laser focus on helping tradies, supervisors, and future site managers take the next step in their careers.

And when it comes to RPL, we keep it real. You won’t be dealing with third-party brokers or external providers. From your first chat to the moment you get qualified, you’re working directly with our experienced team who understand your background and are here to help you succeed.

Builders Academy Australia – Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Process

Builders Academy Australia (BAA) follows an automated, stepped online approach to manage your RPL journey.

Step 1
Self-Application and Assessment Checklist

You self-register online. During registration, you complete a checklist covering each unit of competency in the qualification. The checklist includes a summary of the performance criteria, elements, and examples of the evidence required.

Step 2
Application Review

An RPL Specialist will contact you to review your application and the evidence you can provide. During this call, the RPL Specialist will determine which units can be completed via RPL and outline the applicable fees.

Step 3
Enrolment

You proceed through the enrolment process. Upon successful enrolment, you will be provided access to the RPL Platform (Canvas).

Step 4
Commencement

Once you receive platform access, you will have 90 days to submit all required evidence for your selected units.

Upon your first login, you’ll complete an avatar-led induction that explains how to navigate the platform, how to upload evidence, and key expectations.

Step 5
Submission of Current CV/Resume

You submit a current CV or resume, which helps validate your employment history and relevant experience.

Step 6
Submission of References

You submit a list of current professional references who can validate your work experience. The list must include each referee’s name, relationship to you, and contact details.

Step 7
Uploading of RPL Evidence

You begin submitting evidence for each selected unit.

  • Watch an avatar-led introductory video explaining the types of evidence required.
  • Upload your evidence aligned to each unit of competency.
  • Use the RPL Evidence Submission Checklist and example evidence to assist with submission.
  • Answer written questions related to each unit.
Step 8
RPL Assessor Review

An RPL Assessor will review your submitted evidence and provide feedback. You may be asked to provide additional evidence or clarification as required.

Ongoing Support

Throughout your RPL journey, you’ll be supported by a dedicated Student Success Coach who provides regular contact, guidance, and assistance.

Here’s how we’ve got your back:

✅ We help you choose the right qualification in Building and Construction based on your goals and experience.

✅ We work with you to assess your skills and knowledge so you can get qualified faster through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

✅ You can complete your RPL from anywhere — no need to step away from work or life.

We know the building and construction industry because it’s all we do. Our team understands your background, your goals, and how to help you take the next step.

RPL doesn’t have to be complicated. Trust the experts at BAA and let’s get you qualified — the right way.

ADVANTAGES OF RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

If you've been working in building and construction, there's a good chance you already have the skills to get qualified — and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the smart way to make it happen.

Here’s how RPL can work for you:

  • Save time and money — no need to sit in class or repeat training you’ve already done on the job.
  • Open up new career opportunities — get qualified faster so you can take the next step, apply for a licence, or go for that promotion.
  • Meet licensing and industry requirements — having the right qualification helps you stay compliant and competitive.
  • Get recognised for what you already know — your years of experience count, whether gained in Australia or overseas, formally or informally.
  • No unnecessary learning — we focus only on the gaps, so you can get credit for what you’ve already mastered.
  • Flexible and remote-friendly — the RPL process can be completed from anywhere, around your schedule.

At BAA, we treat RPL as a collaborative, fact-finding process. Our team will work closely with you to gather evidence of your skills and experience, and where possible, provide credit toward a nationally recognised qualification. This can significantly reduce the time (and cost) to get certified.

You’ve already put in the work — now let’s make it official.
