Meet Andrew – Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services

27/06/2022

Do you consider yourself to be a handy person with good eye and hand coordination skills? Are you willing to get your hands dirty while using tools and heavy machinery? A plumbing job like what Andrew has, might be ideal for you.

We met with Andrew, from Geelong, a few weeks ago to talk about his journey into plumbing via a Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services at Builders Academy Australia.

Join him as he discusses what prompted him to advance his plumbing profession.

But, the real question is—what is plumbing?

Plumbing is a skilled trade that requires knowledge of the inner workings of plumbing systems, along with the ability to use special tools and equipment. Plumbers install, maintain, and repair pipes used for water supply and drainage in homes, businesses, and other buildings. They also install heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and waterproofing systems used in buildings.

As a plumber, you will work with pipes and other plumbing systems, including those that are hidden from view inside walls. You may work on residential or commercial projects, including new construction or remodeling projects. You will also need to be able to read blueprints and have an understanding of how plumbing systems work. You must also have good communication skills so you can communicate with clients about their needs.

To become a licensed plumber, you need to develop an advanced skill set and gain in-depth knowledge about the plumbing industry, just like Andrew has become. Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services is the ideal course that makes him eligible to obtain a plumbing license.

He said he waited quite a long time to get his certificate, but that didn’t stop him from taking his Certificate IV in Plumbing with Builders Academy Australia, which offers award-winning courses and diplomas, and he is now ready to do his very best to go ahead with his plumbing career. “I waited quite a long time to get mine done. And I’m glad it’s finally finished and I can move on to the next stage of my career”, he said.

Choosing Builders Academy Australia to get his licence was a very good decision for Andrew as it was government funded at that time. It was also great for those with a young family at home, like him.

“It was very flexible, being two nights a week. I found it quite easy to make time in my schedule to get it done, even with a young family at home.”

He also added that getting it done with BAA didn’t cost a lot of money, even when trying to do it for a while. Because it was so flexible, it was ideal for anyone who wanted to study plumbing but didn’t have a lot of time on their hands.

Everyone has a favourite course segment. Sizing and designing, as well as the drainage portion of the plumbing course, were Andrew’s favourites. Whether it was a little home structure or a multi-story complex, it was beneficial for him to draw out a set of plans for the way he would execute it.

When asked what advice he would provide to future students considering this course, he replied, “I’d suggest getting it done now. Sign up, get into it. Get it finished. I waited quite a long time to get mine done. And I’m glad it’s finally finished and I can move on to the next stage of my career.”

Introduce yourself and the qualification you were undertaking with BAA

Good day! I’m Andrew from Geelong. Last year, I studied my Cert IV in Plumbing with Builders Academy Australia.

Today we’re at the Geelong port, we’re doing a fire service upgrade. It’s been going for three-four months.

Why did you choose Builders Academy Australia?

I chose to study with Builders Academy, because, at the time it was government funded. It didn’t cost a lot of money to get done, when trying to do it for a while. It was very flexible, being two nights a week. I found it quite easy to make time in my schedule to get it done, even with a young family at home.

What was your favorite part of the course?

Favorite part of the course for me was, probably the sizing and designing of water services, hot and cold. And also the drainage aspect of it. It was good to draw up a set of plans the way I would do it, whether it was just a small domestic building or a multi story complex.

What advice would you give other students thinking of undertaking this qualification?

So best advice for any younger students considering to do the Cert IV in Plumbing, I’d suggest getting it done now. Sign up, get into it. Get it finished. I waited quite a long time to get mine done. And I’m glad it’s finally finished and I can move on to the next stage of my career.
