Meet Joshua: Certificate IV Student with Builders Academy

4/07/2017

We caught up with Joshua, an apprentice carpenter who is working towards his CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building). To read about how he got into his apprenticeship, and the advice he has for apprentices, scroll through the gallery below. Cheers Joshua!

Name: Joshua

Age: 20

Job: Apprentice carpenter

“My grandparents were painters and plasterers but I found my way into the trades by myself. I was doing a building and construction course when I was in school and when I left school I had to decide what to do: I thought I would do carpentry, so I found an apprenticeship. I recently started doing my Cert IV in Building & Construction with Builders Academy and my current boss Jacob was an old student of my trainer. I was introduced to him at the course.”

“It’s always different. I’ve worked on a few different jobs. I’ve done everything from framing to lock-up and fix.”

“The work can be both easy and hard – some things are simple while other things are challenging. It’s physical work.“

“My favourite part about being a carpenter is working outside and being outdoors.”

“The best thing you can do is to do what you’re told and listen. By paying attention to the experienced guys you’ll learn the trade better – and that’s rewarding.”
