Meet Danny – Certificate II in Construction Pathways (Pre-Apprenticeship)

6/06/2022

If you want to become an apprentice carpenter and enter the building and construction industry, the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Carpentry) Pre-Apprenticeship course will introduce you to the building and construction industry and equip you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to work safely.

And that’s exactly what Danny was hoping to get out of the experience.

A few weeks ago, we caught up with Building legend Danny who completed the Certificate II in Pre-Apprenticeship with Builders Academy Australia. We talked about his journey and experiences while having the program. Join us as we discuss what pushed him to pursue a pre-apprenticeship course.

Before we get started, let’s first cover what exactly a pre-apprenticeship in the building and construction industry is.

What is a pre-apprenticeship?

This building and construction course is the first step to getting an apprenticeship. It involves both theoretical and practical experiences, with an emphasis on carpentry. This course aims to help students to complete broad-based training in housing and commercial construction, equipping you with the type of skills and knowledge an employer looks for when hiring an apprentice.

Pre-apprentices are introduced to building structures, calculations, safe use of carpentry tools, levelling, concreting formwork, external cladding, interior fixings, demolition, roofing, sub-floor and wall framing, installation of window and door frames, environmental sustainability, first aid, and construction industry policies and procedures.

It seems like a lot, but it will give you a great foundation in your apprenticeship!

Is a pre-apprenticeship worth it?

According to Danny, he was able to gain a lot of knowledge in such a short amount of time and that was his favourite part of the course. He also didn’t expect the pre-apprenticeship to be so easy to adapt and learn.

Danny knew he wanted to do something hands-on so he decided to complete the pre-apprenticeship program to get a taste for it. Upon completion of the course, a lot of career pathways opened to him that he didn’t know existed.

Congratulations to Danny, who was given an award as 2021 student of the year!

Meet Danny

Hi my name is Danny, and I did the certificate II in Pre-Apprenticeship with Builders Academy Australia.

What was your favourite part of the program?

I have to say my favourite part of the program was being able to gain a lot of knowledge in such a short amount of time. I didn’t think I would be able to reach that level of knowledge in the industry within the two years of me being in there. It was very easy to catch on and to adapt. So I’d say that, that was my favourite part about the course.

What was your motivation for undertaking the program?

My motivation now that I have completed this qualification is that I know I definitely want to do something hands-on. It has opened up different industries and a lot of different interests that I didn’t know existed.

What does it mean to be recognised as the 2021 Student of the Year?

Being the 2021 student of the year feels unbelievable. It’s a surreal feeling, it’s something you can really only dream of.

How does it feel to complete this program?

All I want to do in my life is to make myself and my family proud. This has done everything in that goal if not more. So it feels absolutely phenomenal, it’s how you’d imagine and feel like in a dream. That’s exactly how it feels.
