Not only are they a great opportunity to learn about emerging technologies and products in the industry, but they’re also a chance to network and make contacts, or even score your dream job.

With a focus on promoting career pathways in the industry through VET courses, this highly successful week encompasses hundreds of different events across seven days. Entering its fifth year in 2016, National Skills Week appears set to remain a permanent fixture in the calendar.

A chance for young students and apprentices to show off their acquired skills after having won their respective regional competitions, this three-day event is designed to promote a variety of skills in different fields. Thirteen of the skills categories focus on building and construction, so it’s an excellent opportunity for trainees to demonstrate their competence in their trade.

The Australian Construction Equipment Expo (ACE) is a long-running Australian event that aims to showcase the latest heavy machinery and construction equipment on the market. This event is also recommended for those looking to learn more about different industries, including civil engineering, earthmoving, forestry, public works, demolition and more.

For tradies and DIY builders alike, this event is a huge sale for excavating machinery, commercial vehicles, tools and much more. The entry fee is only $5 and all proceeds are donated to charity. How can you say no to that?

Having adopted a focus for engineers, architects and builders as well as tradies, this three-day event covers interesting and innovative topics such as sustainability and green building. Another advantage is the possibility of qualifying for CPD points when attending certain seminars or lectures during the event.

Previously held in Geelong, Victoria and, more recently, Perth, the Construction, Trades and Mining Exhibition (CTME) typically takes place in mid-April. The location for next year’s event is yet to be disclosed but it’s worth looking out for, and not only because the entry is free. The event promises to also showcase many construction- and mining-related products.
